Smithsonian Magazine: Turtle conservation in Panama

To report this story on a small leatherback turtle conservation effort near the Darien Gap, the now infamous migrant path through the jungle near the Colombia-Panama border, I flew to the indigenous village of Armila. The beasts are ancient and endangered and mysterious and marine biologist Callie Veelenturf has been fighting for their rights under a novel concept, the rights of nature.
